The Importance of Choosing Quality Plumbing Fixtures
Whether you’re building a new home, having one built for you, or renovating your current home – it’s important to pay close attention to the plumbing fixtures you are installing.
Choosing an inexpensive brand may seem like a good place to save money, but we’ve seen it far too many times – it’s often the wrong decision. The cheaper parts in things like faucets, toilets, shower bases or bathtubs can often fail far earlier than what you may expect. If they do fail slowly, it will mean taking the pieces apart and re-installing a new unit. If they fail quickly, it may mean costly repairs due to flooding if you’re not home.
Toilets are another common area that homeowners will try to save money. We receive many calls for clogged toilets and this is quite simply due to bad design. The flow of the trapway from the toilet to the sewer pipe is often not engineered correctly with low quality toilets. To save money on construction of cheaper toilets, sometimes the interior of the trapway is not fully glazed. This means items may get caught or build up over time.
Regardless of where you buy your fixtures – specialty plumbing/kitchen stores or the Big Box stores – always choose the best (or close to the best) you can. After all these products are the most used household items. We use them multiple times daily and we rely on them to work flawlessly!
Some of the better known and better performing brands that we recommend are Kohler, Moen, and of course American Standard.
